About World AIDS Remembrance Day
14  05.2022
For almost 40 years, the world has celebrated the Day of Remembrance for those who died from AIDS. The first ever Memorial Day was organized by relatives and friends of people who died of AIDS. The number of cases at that time was only a few thousand, and very little was known about the infection as a whole.

Memorial Day today is an opportunity to demonstrate readiness to resist the spread of HIV infection, to draw public attention to the problem of HIV / AIDS, to the interests of people living with HIV. On this day, we also remember those who died of AIDS and express solidarity with people living with HIV.
AIDS continues to be one of the leading causes of premature death in the world. According to world statistics, the number of people living with HIV is 37.7 million people. During the entire observation period, 36.3 million people died from AIDS-related diseases. As of December 31, 2021, 345,076 HIV-infected citizens were registered in the Volga Federal District. The total number of deaths of HIV-infected people from all causes in the district was 115,332 people.
An effective antiretroviral therapy has now been developed that can contain the replication of the virus and prevent its transmission. In the human body, over time, the virus can become resistant to prescribed drugs, and therapy ceases to be effective. Therefore, HIV drug resistance needs to be monitored.
In the Volga Federal District, the total number of people receiving antiretroviral therapy has reached 158,928 people. In 2021, treatment coverage for patients under observation in the county was 82.5%. FBUN NNIIEM them. academician I.N. Blokhina has been monitoring the emergence of resistant strains of HIV-1 to drugs of various classes since 2008 in order to correct treatment regimens.
Winning the fight against HIV is made up of many factors, and prevention and early detection of HIV remain the first step along the way. Being diagnosed means being responsible both for your own health and for the health of your loved ones.
Stopping the HIV epidemic is possible only by joining our common efforts!
