03  09.2025
At the Joint Russian-Burundi Center for the Study and Prevention of Infections in Bujumbura, research work has begun, which Rospotrebnadzor is conducting with specialists from the National Institute of Public Health of the Republic of Burundi.

Our institute is represented by senior researcher of the laboratory of epidemiology of viral hepatitis Zalesskikh A.A. and laboratory assistant of the laboratory of molecular biology and biotechnology Suslov N.A.

Until mid-October, 20 specialists from 6 research organizations and institutions of Rospotrebnadzor will study the characteristics of viral hepatitis, intestinal infections, HIV, and especially dangerous infections, including cholera, in Burundi. Molecular genetic and serological monitoring of viral infections registered in Burundi will also be conducted.

In addition to research, Rospotrebnadzor specialists will conduct a series of training events for African specialists in laboratory diagnostics and disinfection.

The joint work is designed to ensure the timely detection of biological threats outside of Russia and to help strengthen the sovereignty of the Republic of Burundi in the field of infection control.
